“This year the Istanbul Contemporary Dance and Performance Festival includes a concert of Olivier Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time. As we were searching for a picture to use on our catalogue and web page of this concert, I came across your painting of Revelation. I haven’t found anything better throughout art history which reveals ‘Revelation’s hopeful message’. I believe it shares the same feelings with Messiaen’s music. With your permission, we would like to use details from your picture on our webpage/catalogue.”

“Topliff is a delight to listen to. She retells the story in Revelation using her very simple but beautiful paintings and the sound effects really compliment what is being told. She uses explanations from scholars but it’s done in a very simple and natural way and is easy to follow.  I liked it too that she herself wasn’t overgroomed or too ‘glossy’, but comes across as very natural and unassuming. It makes it easier to focus on what she says and demonstrates through her works of art. The fact that she doesn’t have a strong accent is also a big bonus.

The DVD has 5 sections - and each can be watched independently.  She does quote scripture but most of the script is a re-telling of the story and linking it with other sections of the Bible, which is great.

What I really liked was the beginning of the session ‘behind the scenes’ where Debby Topliff talks about a children’s book she wrote and her daughter-in-law illustrated. The story was about a 6″ tall little girl who was rejected by her parents and who was adopted by squirrel family. As the story developed Debby realised it was her story of how she recognised the disconnect in her life and that she didn’t always fit in,  … and links this to the separation between us and God and the need to be adopted into his family.

What is interesting to me was her explanation of the unholy counterfeit trinity (dragon, beast and false prophet) three times short of perfection. I believe that this DVD is a really useful aid to getting into Revelation, which is - for so many - a very difficult book to understand, and which sadly is often skipped over.”
