Painting Revelation: A Video Resource on the Book of Revelation

I love to study the Bible but I’ve always been intimidated by the book of Revelation. All those strange characters and horrifying events made me feel afraid. Is this book talking about the end of the world? What does it say to my life?

Several years ago I challenged myself to explore Revelation in-depth and ended up painting the images you see here. One thing led to another, and with the help of some talented friends, we produced a 45-minute DVD that tells the story while you watch the images. Now people of all ages — alone, in groups, at home, or in church — can discover Revelation’s hopeful message and receive its promised blessing.

Jesus feeding the 5000

I've completed the first of two 5' x 7' paintings of the Gospel of Mark. Unlike Revelation and Acts, Mark is arranged as a map. Part 1 (chapters 1-9) takes place around the Sea of Galilee. Part 2 (chapters 10-16) will take place in and around Jerusalem. As with Acts, all the major characters are color-coded. Part 1 is available as a slide show and full-size banner. I have been humbled and blessed to sketch and then paint the life of Jesus. I call this process of study Visual Lectio Divina--studying the divine Word using visual tools. This process has taken me deep into Scripture and made all the people in the gospel and Acts become very real. The paintings enable me to see a whole book of the Bible in one large, detailed view and to make connections and gain insights that I would otherwise miss.

The Book of Acts

Book of Acts

This 5' x 7' painting of 100 scenes from the Book of Acts is organized as a journey that spans the first 25 years of the community of faith, beginning with Pentecost and ending with Paul imprisoned in Rome. The artwork comes with a simple key so anyone with a Bible can follow the lives of the early believers. Each major character is color-coded by clothing so you can trace their comings and goings. Compare Peter's ministry and experiences with Paul's. See when they met each other. Notice how many times angels come to the rescue, and God gives messages in dreams. This cross-cultural, cross-generational teaching tool is available as a full-color book, a full-size sturdy cloth banner, and on a disc as a slide show. You may also get permission to download individual scenes.
I love to teach Acts, Mark, and Revelation, to groups of people using my slides and banners. Contact Debby for more information.
